[When the communicator switches on you get a zoom in on a lot of blonde hair. It takes a couple of seconds for Kara to move so you get to see her face instead of only her hair.]

Right, sorry. I don't usually use phones I like face-to-face better- but anyway. I have a couple of questions. And most of them sound pretty much like 'what is this and why am I here'.

[She frowns, one hand on her hip.]

So can we start with getting those two out of the way? Okay, thanks to whoever answers. I mean I know I’m probably being kidnapped for ransom but who’s actually stupid enough to kidnap Supergirl of all people and expects to get away with it. Luthor, I swear if it it’s you…

Speaking of Supers, I’d also like to know what on Argon happened-

[And she pauses, wrinkling her nose. She’s not stupid enough to let it show she is almost powerless out of the blue to people she doesn’t even know, so she switched mid-sentence.]

…to my parents and my cousin. You see, I was in the middle of a family reunion, and I don’t know if bad guys get many of those but ‘sorry I was busy getting kidnapped’ will prooobably not work with my mom.

So, to summarize: Where am I, why am I here, and whose butts do I have to kick to get back to my family?

It's complicated. My cousin was already called 'Superman' so I kind of... it felt like I had to live up to his legacy you know?

Oh, no insult intended. [Mostly. Smarmy or snarky are just his default conversational styles.]

The House of El. Is it a distinguished House, then?

[He's curious about her. The name Supergirl doesn't mean anything to him (pop-culture ignorant alien that he is), but finding out more about her family might tell him more about who she is and where she comes from.]

[More like 'were' ever since both her father and uncle fell from grace, but still.]

Narvinekralonum from the House of Zdyllara from Gallifrey. [Time Lords like long names.] But I usually go by Narvin.

So how did you and your cousin end up with your unusual nicknames?

Wait- so you were laughing at my name while you have that tongue twister or a name? Some priorities you have.

[She sighs] He has- well, we have powers when the Earth's sunlight touches us. He decided to use them to save people and they nicknamed him 'Superman'. The name kind of stick.

When I landed on Earth years later I just... rolled with it, I guess.

My name is a perfectly respectable Time Lord name.

Do the humans know that you and your cousin are aliens? [The role of aliens on Earth and how they're received is a matter of great interest to him.]

Well, yeah. They are usually pretty alright with it.

[And she says usually because when New Krypton appeared on Earth and they were surrounded by Kryptonians... well, some weren't that ok with it.]

Why?

[timesbureaucrat]

Humans don't always tolerate it very well. Many universes have human organizations dedicated solely to dealing with aliens, some with more benevolent intentions than others. My agency's policy is to avoid contact with the humans when possible so as not to risk provoking a panic.

But then, perhaps when it's just one or two helpful aliens it's easier for the Earth population to deal with.

Yeah, and my cousin... I think there's only one person in the entire world who truly dislikes and hates him and he's not really right in the head anyway.

So when I arrived to Earth they were pretty much in love with our race, you see?

[When a Time Lord made himself a visible presence on Earth, it provoked the British government to form an organization dedicated to protecting Earth from them and other aliens.]

Seeing as how I had lost my planet when I got to Earth I wouldn't really call myself lucky.

[Narvin pauses. He's afraid of losing his planet. People from his future say it's inevitable. He deals with the flicker of fear that her words evoke in the same way he deals with a lot of things. Repress and keep snarking.]

That would put a damper on things.

A 'damper on things', that's a funny way to put it. It's not like I could run away back home, so I made Earth my new home.

Yes, I've heard that it's a good planet for asylum-seekers.

Although it does make me wonder what you were doing on Earth in the first place, away from your home when it was destroyed. Running away from the danger, or just good luck? Or bad, depending on your opinion of the matter. Some people do like going down with sinking ships.

My parents send me to Earth as the planet got destroyed. Can we stop talking about it already?
