[When the communicator switches on you get a zoom in on a lot of blonde hair. It takes a couple of seconds for Kara to move so you get to see her face instead of only her hair.]

Right, sorry. I don't usually use phones I like face-to-face better- but anyway. I have a couple of questions. And most of them sound pretty much like 'what is this and why am I here'.

[She frowns, one hand on her hip.]

So can we start with getting those two out of the way? Okay, thanks to whoever answers. I mean I know I’m probably being kidnapped for ransom but who’s actually stupid enough to kidnap Supergirl of all people and expects to get away with it. Luthor, I swear if it it’s you…

Speaking of Supers, I’d also like to know what on Argon happened-

[And she pauses, wrinkling her nose. She’s not stupid enough to let it show she is almost powerless out of the blue to people she doesn’t even know, so she switched mid-sentence.]

…to my parents and my cousin. You see, I was in the middle of a family reunion, and I don’t know if bad guys get many of those but ‘sorry I was busy getting kidnapped’ will prooobably not work with my mom.

[Oh god what is this month. Dick's first thought is somewhere along the lines of STOP BRINGING IN INMATE VERSIONS OF PEOPLE I KNOW, ADMIRAL, and his second has to do with when she's from in the timeline, if she's even from their universe, if she knows who he is or if she'd know without the mask, considering they've only met a couple of times, and the last time she'd... kissed him, which was just all levels of awkward.

Being far behind in the timeline compared to everyone else continues to suck.

So after a moment of hesitation, Dick clicks on the video feed. He looks a little younger, probably, because he's from about a year after the first Crisis, and there are maybe some work related minor scrapes and bruises on his face, but. Hi Kara it's Dick do you know him are you from some other universe. :|]

It's called the Barge, and I don't think kicking anyone's butt is going to get you out of here any faster.

[This is always SO MUCH EASIER with her powers. With them she could easily listen to Dick's heartbeat and any other body sounds and identify him, lead on the mask or not. Once they met face to face she would be able to confirm it with just his smell.

It'd be that easy.

But without them she just gets to... guess by his voice and looks. And you have no idea how nervous that makes her.]

[Man he appreciates your caution, because it has been kind of lousy to have random strangers be like hey you were Robin, let me continue to divulge all the things I know about you from this movie I saw when I was five.

And between that, and about everyone and their cousin knowing he was Batman - or, at least, had been wearing the Batsuit back when they'd visited Gotham - he appreciated what discretion he could get.]

[YES she got it right. She refrains from clapping but it's a close call.]

It's nice to see a familiar face in here. Do you have anything to add to what people have already told me?

[It's easy enough to slip into Responsible Team Leader mode with Kara, even if he's sort of been in an acting way too much like Batman slump lately, so. That's kind of progress.]

Tim, Cassie and Steph, and an alternate universe version of Conner and Oracle are here. [He's still not sure how many other people's identities she knows, but he knows she knows Tim and Steph from the flood where they swapped places with people they were close to, which is why you're getting a codename instead of a first name for Babs.] Riddler, Poison Ivy and an alternate universe's Jonathan Crane are here too.

And we're all from different points in the timestream, which happens a lot. Everyone else from our world is at least a year or so ahead of me, and I'm guessing you are, too. I already know basically everything about what's going to happen though, so don't freak out about messing anything up, and honestly I'd rather find out about any surprises now rather than a in a couple months during a truth flood.

Has anyone talked to you about those, yet?

[Kara was nodding when he kept mentioning her friends and allies, some of them had already contacted her over the network- but when he gets to the villains, she frowns. Specially at Poison Ivy, she doesn't need to get kissed again okay, thanks.

But at least she doesn't have to worry about fucking up with the timestream. Rao knows she would have eventually.]

Uh... nope. What are those?

Floods are almost always bimonthly, and there's no warning when one will hit or who it's going to affect. We don't take on water so much as brush up against the fabric of another world, and usually around more than half the population of the Barge - wardens and inmates - are affected by it. The affects vary and aren't predictable either. One flood could be everyone turns into animals, another you can only tell the truth, another you might get temporarily replaced by someone you know from back home. They usually only last a few days.

About once a month, we pull into port, which basically means we're visiting another world for a few days. We usually don't get a lot of warning before it happens, and we don't get a lot of information about where exactly we're stepping off, but most of the time, you can choose to stay on the ship if you want. Some ports your Kryptonian abilities will be suppressed almost entirely, and in some they won't be.

And every once an a while, the Barge will "crash" into another reality entirely, where we basically assume the lives of people who usually look and act at least a little bit like us somewhere else. About a year ago we were back in the American Old West, that sort of thing.

I don't want them messing with my powers. Is this a sun thing? If it's the- the suns in the port that might affect my abilities I could stay inside. Having a few of them it's better than not having any or having them go overboard.

[She'd gone training to planet with red sun with Kal once. It was really not an experience she'd like to repeat.]

And I don't think I like how crashing into another reality sounds either. Or turning into animals... how am I supposed to 'redeem myself' if things like those keep happening?

It depends. We've been to Earths - or planets, anyway - that have a yellow sun, but inmates' powers were still dampened. Sometimes they do it for wardens, too, and there's no way to know in advance, usually. I wouldn't swear off ports entirely, though, you can get pretty stir crazy just hanging around here without a break.

And you'd be surprised. The system does work, and sometimes the stuff we go through is pretty good at bringing up issues people otherwise might not talk about. [Also he's not 100% positive why you'd be an inmate in the first place, so. There's that.]

[And after being inside of a pod in space for more than 30 years spending too much time in the same place makes her restless, so her resolution to stay inside will not last long.

Still.]

If I don't want to talk about them I won't. Are they going to try to act like Clark on me? Yes, I have issues. I can handle them just fine.

[Sigh sigh what do.]

No offense, Kara, but I think your version of handling them could be part of the reason you're here. And whether or not they'll "act like Clark on you" depends on who you end up getting assigned with, but yes, generally your warden will try to get you to talk to them about the stuff you're going through. And they might get on your nerves sometimes, but at the end of the day, they're someone who has your back and will stick up for you if you need it.

[If it was anyone else they'd get yelled at and/or hung up on. But since this is Nightwing and it's so easy for Kara to slip into 'I'll be good' mode whenever he's around, he just gets a big pout.]

You make it sound like I need someone to have my back.
