[When the communicator switches on you get a zoom in on a lot of blonde hair. It takes a couple of seconds for Kara to move so you get to see her face instead of only her hair.]

Right, sorry. I don't usually use phones I like face-to-face better- but anyway. I have a couple of questions. And most of them sound pretty much like 'what is this and why am I here'.

[She frowns, one hand on her hip.]

So can we start with getting those two out of the way? Okay, thanks to whoever answers. I mean I know I’m probably being kidnapped for ransom but who’s actually stupid enough to kidnap Supergirl of all people and expects to get away with it. Luthor, I swear if it it’s you…

Speaking of Supers, I’d also like to know what on Argon happened-

[And she pauses, wrinkling her nose. She’s not stupid enough to let it show she is almost powerless out of the blue to people she doesn’t even know, so she switched mid-sentence.]

…to my parents and my cousin. You see, I was in the middle of a family reunion, and I don’t know if bad guys get many of those but ‘sorry I was busy getting kidnapped’ will prooobably not work with my mom.

So, to summarize: Where am I, why am I here, and whose butts do I have to kick to get back to my family?

[Aaaand have a long pause as he heads for the stairs because. Man this is insane and uncomfortable.] How ab out you tell me the last thing you remember, instead?

I was diagnosed Kryptonite poisoning. Last I remember was the pain and my parents yelling at me to stop before I woke up here.

[Oh.

Oh God.

Oh God, New Krypton, his head is legitimately going to explode over this.] Sorry.

You know that timelines don't necessarily...line up, here?

Don't you dare feel sorry about me. I will find out what I need to change to get better, and go back to them. It will be fine.

[She nods] I was told Oracle and Kon don't belong to the same universe as we do... and I think Cassie and Steph are both from a future point.

[Okay well, that is a better reaction than he hoped for.] They are. So am I. Almost at your room.

[Almost basically meaning 'I'm here,' so a few seconds later, he's knocking.]

[With the pinch of x-ray vision she has left she checks who's at the door before opening for him.]

That was fast.

Well it wasn't like I was going for a stroll.

[He looks over her shoulder, giving her room a once over to see how it looks.] How are you holding up?

[She steps to let him inside. Her room is a perfect replica of the room she had in Krypton, back in Argo.]

As well as anyone who suddenly appears as an inmate in a prison can. Are you a warden?

[He's still triangulating the time she came from, running over things in his head: were Kryptonians already turned into public enemy number one, how exactly had Kara spent that time, what kind of baggage would have brought here here - but he shoves it back as he turns to her, nodding.]

Yeah. About two and a half years, now.

[She makes a face. More than two years without her family, without Kal....] That's... a very long time. I'm sorry.

And what's with everybody being wardens but me? What did I do wrong?

There's nothing to be sorry for. [He shrugs, rubbing the back of his head as he starts to pace around her room.] I don't know. Until I - I mean, until you get a look at your file, you won't know.

But there's no file until you have a warden. [And now he's crossing his arms, turning to look at her, and it's like he's wearing a cowl, because there's zero expression on his face. There, Kara, no pity.] It might be a long wait. But I can tell you for sure that nothing is happening back home while you're here. Time can just...pause, for a while.

[She appreciates the lack of pity... even though not knowing if he's happy or mad at seeing her is kind of annoying. But that's Tim for you.]

What happens if I change and get back home? Will your future change as well- or am I here to make sure the future happens?

[Emotion, what's that. He shrugs slightly, shaking his head.] I can't even say for sure we're from the same universe. Maybe you graduating is what makes my present happen, maybe you graduating is what you need for your future - and there's no real way to determine it.

You're not a bad person, Kara, but not everyone who comes here is. Maybe there's just...something you need to learn.

I hate this lame timeline stuff, makes my head hurt.

[But she knows he's trying to make her feel better by telling her the truth so she just nods and sighs, her mind racing.]

So I might not even deserve to be this but someone has decided to teach me a lesson. Now that's good news. This blows.

You and me both.

[And he hesitates, because deciding what people deserve here is tough and morally gray and just because he's been living in morally gray for a while doesn't mean he LIKES applying it to friends.]

I know the waiting's the worst part, but it should make more sense once you have a warden. I... [He exhales and looks at her, almost a Batman like look, but without the glower.] Inmates come here when they die, Kara. It's a second chance. You of all people deserve that.

[She was regarding everything Tim was saying with a 'this is going to be a pain in the ass' expression, the more Tim talked the less Kara liked this place. Not because it was Tim she was actually glad to have people she recognized and friends in here, but it didn't sound like a fun ride.

But then he has to go and add the last part. She knew about the dying but what he just said...]

...What if I don't deserve it? What if I screw up?

Kara-- [But he knows that kind of feeling, and just telling her she's nuts and of course she does might not do the trick. He shaves his head, turns to look out a window for a moment.]

My first inmate was a serial killer. Obsessive personality, really messed up background. He struggled with being a good person, had to really fight for it. But he did, and he graduated, and he earned it. [He looks back at her, and this time he does let some emotion show on his face: sincerity.] And if he could to that, if he deserved that chance, after the things he did, there's no way in hell you're going to screw up.

[She gives him a slight nod so he knows she's listening, but her expression doesn't change much as she reaches for her legs and hugs them close to her chest, hovering to land on the bed in her little Kryptonian room.]

Can you tell me something? In the future- the future you come from... do I screw up? Is that why I'm here? [And then a long pause as she takes a deep breath, trying to ask the real question she's itching to ask.]

Was New Krypton a bad idea?

[He doesn't say anything for a long minute, leery of telling her anything about what's to come. She got her parents back; he doesn't want to be the one to tell her she'll lose them again.

Settling one hand on his hip, using the other to rub the back of his neck, Tim shakes his head.]

It wasn't a bad idea. [At least that's the truth, he thinks; giving them a place of their own wasn't a bad idea. Just every decision they made once they had it.]

[She might not be able to hear a needle falling down on the other side of the world anymore, but she still has enough powers to know Tim's... nervous about something.

Nervous, but not lying. Which is enough as far as Kara is concerned- for now. She doesn't smile at him, but she does give him a look that's meant to be reassuring.]

Well, that's something at least. I- thank you, I... needed to heard that I guess.

[He wishes he could tell her more. He's not positive he can lie to her successfully; he's good, but learning how to control your heart rate is hard, and he's out of practice.]

Yeah. I know it's not much, considering - but if you need anything - to be let into the CES, or just to hang out, watch movies or talk or - I'm in room one-eighteen. If I'm not there, just follow the curry smell. [Tiniest smirk. That will always be weird to him, but at least it's amusing-weird.]

[That actually gets her to laugh, and blush a bit. Tim is not a bad guy, and he's helped her plenty in the past- but she can't help but try to ruffle his feathers when he sees him. Must be a Bat-thing.]

You'd actually watch movies with me? Honest to God sitting down and watch it without complaining about every single thing they get wrong?
